Guess What I've Read?
Jul. 2nd, 2004 08:55 pmOut of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my inconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
- Invictus, by William Ernest Henley.
That poem is like a big 'fuck you' to the world.
Right now I am stuck between feeling absolutely terrified of everything and feeling so happy I want to break into a million pieces just for the fun of being put back together again. It leaves me confused.
Being around Someone is like having a rock thrown into me- it takes a while for the surface to settle and the ripples to disappear.
I'm being deliberately obtuse, and I'm not sure if that's even the right word.
Serenity now. *Does that hand gesture that Jenn does.*
