When a student is having major problems understanding a certain concept, there are several DOs and DON'Ts.
DO...
... try to explain it to them in a different way that they might understand better.
... try to find other resources for them if the above does not work.
... notice if they've had the same baffled, frustrated reaction to everything you've been teaching for the last month and a half.
DON'T...
... explain it the exact same way, seem surprised that the student STILL doesn't understand, point out (fairly loudly) that nobody ELSE is having any trouble thankyouverymuch, and walk away.
