Frothy-mix-of-lube-and-fecal-matter compares Iraq to LotR.
In an interview with the editorial board of the Bucks County Courier Times, embattled Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has equated the war in Iraq with J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings." According to the paper, Santorum said that the United States has avoided terrorist attacks at home over the past five years because the "Eye of Mordor" has been focused on Iraq instead.

"As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else," Santorum said. "It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S. You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States."

I wonder if he ships Frodo/Sam?

...See, this is where allegory fails. Senator Santorum probably finished a LotR book the night before that sitting and woke up sweaty in the middle of the night with that comparison. What the article is missing, however, is that after the silence that followed, Santorum was said to have mumbled, "Well, it made sense in my head."

Also, what is the Iraq equivalent of Frodo/Sam?

Bush/Blair, maybe? They probably both have very hairy feet.

Iunno. I don't get the impression that Bush would go after a drowning Blair. He'd probly just snicker in that weird Ms. McEachern way and paddle off (in the wrong direction, of course).

Did he seriously? That's so disrespectful toward the Iraq situation.

And toward Tolkien. Wrong on so many levels.

And makes NO SENSE at all. I mean, who's Sauron in this situation? What are we going to drop into the volcano? (I vote Ann Coulter, but that's just me.)
