I listened to Battle For The Sun today and, well, I don't think I've disliked a Placebo album this much since Sleeping With Ghosts. It just sort of wobbles along and the vocal hooks don't work with the guitar hooks and Brian Molko is really, REALLY bad at being upbeat and I'm not feeling it at all. Part of that is because of Steve 2.0, at least a little bit. He does too much too fast and adds in irritating tappity solo bits where no tappity solo bits need be.
I will admit that he is something of a hottie, though. You can tell in all their new press photos that Brian thinks so too- he's got this big smirk like "hell YES I landed that sweet young tattooed thing because I amGabe Saporta a goddamn rock star and I can do that." (Except he kind of always has that smirk.) Still, I miss old Steve. He was the best of all Steves even if he didn't have any tattoos or a charming grin. :(
I really didn't like Meds when it first came out and it grew on me like a fungus on a frog's dick. (But, you know, in a good way.) Hopefully this one will too, eventually, and all will be right in my world once more. But for now I'm going to put on Without You I'm Nothing and pretend it never happened.
"Ashtray Heart" is pretty good, though.
