The last fictional book I read was The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Diaz. It is about a fat virgin named Dawn Schweizer Oscar who loves Lord of the Rings and is sad and Dominican. It is also full of bits of Spanish, which I painstakingly puzzled out with the aid of a French-English dictionary. It was pretty fantastic and ended exactly where it needed to end. That's rare in a book, I find.

The fictional books I am currently reading are Lady Oracle by Margaret Atwood, On Beauty by Zadie Smith, and By the Light of My Father's Smile by Alice Walker. (Yes, all at once. I read a lot. It's a thing.)

Im my opinion, that's the only way to read. If I don't have at least three on the go at the same time, there's something wrong.

How people manage just one book at a time is really beyond me.

I just read that too! I picked it up when I was in Puerto Rico on a whim. Dead on with the ending, too :)

Did you pick it up on a whim or were you in Puerto Rico on a whim? Either way, I'm jealous 'cause you were in Puerto Rico.

Ha, picked it up on a whim. My whims are nearly not so far-reaching as to get me to PR anytime soon.

How are you enjoying Lady Oracle? It is the first Atwood novel I ever read to completion. I also love Alice Walker. Is By the light of my father's smile good?
